The Fiscal Responsibility Commission has appealed for technical and logistics support from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in order to effectively discharge its mandate in the area of transparency, accountability and prudence in public financial management.
The FRC Chairman, Victor Muruako Esq. recently made this know when the EFCC Chairman Abdulrasheed Bawa (represented by the Secretary, Dr.George Ekpungu) paid a courtesy visit to the Commission.
He said, “It should not be taken for granted that the Commission is in dire need of continuous Human Capital Development, we are aware of the fact that the EFCC has a very vibrant and experienced technical arm, and we hereby put it to our distinguished delegation that FRC is looking forward to benefitting from their fountain of knowledge”.
Muruako expressed his appreciation to the anti-corruption agency in the area of collaborating with the Commission especially in the area of providing the Corporate Head Office for FRC after temporary forfeiture saying that it would not have been possible without their support as a fallout of their untiring efforts in fighting corruption.
He pointed out that the Commission is currently working with stakeholders to amend the Fiscal Responsibility Act because according to him it is lacking provision for penalties for offenders noting that this is an area the Commission will be willing to work with the EFCC which will eventually make the Act to be effective.
In his response, Dr.Ekpungu thanked the Management of FRC for giving him the opportunity to rub minds with them because it is also part of strategic plan of the EFCC to interface with other Agencies about their activities.
He opined that the synergy between the two Agencies will add value to governance because the objectives are similar, that is, preventing our commonwealth to be stolen by individuals and this would help the system thereby making our country a decent society.
Ekpungu promised to fasttrack the signing of Memorandum of Understanding between EFCC and FRC as well as looking into other requests made by the FRC Chairman.
Highlights of the working visit by the EFCC was the decoration of the representative of the Chairman as the FRC Ambassador with the Commission’s branded lapel while other members of the delegation took their turns by getting their lapels from the FRC Chairman.
